Gene family analysis suggests new evolutionary scenario for sterol and hopanoid biomarkers

چکیده
Steroid and hopanoid biomarkers can be found in ancient rocks may give a glimpse of what life was present at that time. Sterols hopanoids are produced by two related enzymes, though the evolutionary history this protein family is complicated losses horizontal gene transfers, appears to widely misinterpreted. Here, I have added sequences from additional species, re-analysis phylogeny SHC OSC indicates single origin both enzymes among eukaryotes. This pattern best explained endosymbiotic acquisition bacterial ancestor, followed widespread loss SHC, subsequent HGT events ferns ascomycetes. Thus, last common ancestor eukaryotes would been bifunctional for sterol production. Later enzymatic innovations allowed diversification sterols Contrary previous interpretations, eukaryotic (LECA) potentially able produce as substitute anaerobic conditions. Without invoking any other metabolic demand, LECA could facultative aerobe, living unstable conditions with respect oxygen level.

Combining expression and comparative evolutionary analysis. The COBRA gene family.
Plant cell shape is achieved through a combination of oriented cell division and cell expansion and is defined by the cell wall. One of the genes identified to influence cell expansion in the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) root is the COBRA (COB) gene that belongs to a multigene family. Three members of the AtCOB gene family have been shown to play a role in specific types of cell expansion...
متن کاملPhylogenetic and evolutionary analysis of the PLUNC gene family.
The PLUNC family of human proteins are candidate host defense proteins expressed in the upper airways. The family subdivides into short (SPLUNC) and long (LPLUNC) proteins, which contain domains predicted to be structurally similar to one or both of the domains of bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI), respectively. In this article we use analysis of the human, mouse, and rat genom...
متن کاملThe Tic20 gene family: phylogenetic analysis and evolutionary considerations.
Tic20 is a polytopic protein of the inner envelope membrane of chloroplasts, and it is proposed to act as a translocation channel during chloroplast protein import. By analysing 29 sequences from diverse organisms, it was evident that Tic20-related proteins form two distinct clades, termed Group 1 and Group 2. The former group includes canonical Tic20 proteins that are essential for chloroplast...
متن کاملAnalysis of apoptosis protein expression in early-stage colorectal cancer suggests opportunities for new prognostic biomarkers.
PURPOSE Although most stage II colon cancers are potentially curable by surgery alone, approximately 20% of patients relapse, suggesting a need for establishing prognostic markers that can identify patients who may benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. We tested the hypothesis that differences in expression of apoptosis-regulating proteins account for differences in clinical outcome among patient...

According to the increasing number of AIDS patients and their deaths, Treatment is a very important debate to prevent this Which is dependent on early and Accurate diagnosis. Currently, there are different diagnostic methods, including virus cultures, rapid tests, western blot, and other tests for this infection. Among these, HIV RNA TESTING, especially APTIMA HIV RNA ASSAY and fourth generatio...
